Dr. Jesús Armas Announces Retirement Following 39-Year Career in Education
WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Dr. Jesús Armas has announced his plan to retire at the conclusion of the current school year, marking the end of a career in education that began in 1987. Currently serving as the Principal of John I. Leonard High School, Dr. Armas leaves behind a professional legacy defined by rigorous, data-informed instruction, robust systems, and relationship-based culture. A native of Belle Glade and the son of Cuban political refugees, his journey began as a chemistry teacher and basketball coach before transitioning into a long and impactful tenure within public school leadership.
Throughout his time in the field, Dr. Armas has focused on the growth of both his students and his staff, notably mentoring 29 educators into administrative leadership roles and leading his schools to record-high graduation rates. While he has been recognized with numerous honors, including the 2020 Palm Beach County Principal of the Year and the 2023 Florida Hispanic American Chamber of Commerce Shining Star Educator of the Year, Dr. Armas is ready for a change of pace.
While he will maintain his presence in the educational community through his firm, JTD Educational Consultants, Dr. Armas is eager to transition into a new chapter of life in Loxahatchee with his wife of 38 years, Teresa. He noted he is simply looking forward to "doing whatever it is that retired people do that doesn't involve work."
